!Ge-rob?
eish! Not getting paid for services rendered, for artists, sucks big time... Our group performed and ran a workshop series as part of the launch of the !Garop festival in 2009. Although led to believe and poised expectingly, we did not get paid... Its now been !Garop 2010, and still the outstanding fee remains so... It's so much needed just to make ends meet... Now a committee wil sit on 10 Jan 2011 to plan the settling of the bill. We wait in hope... Again...

Kalahari SOS
My performance poetry group Khoi Khonnexion is very excited about an initiative we're planning for later this year. The project entails a 24 hours event that aims to raise broad awareness of the plight befallen the San people of Kalahari, who are being dehumanized by the Botswana government and being starved from access to water, while tourists and animals have access to an endless supply, on the one hand, while the San are deprived and terrorized by way of their hard-come-by water supplies being mercilessly dumped out on the dry sand, in front of the first peoples. The objective includes creating petitions and organs to lobby at political level, as well as to raise funds for the various basic needs of the Kalahari San.
Khoi Khonnexion has performed this theme previously under the working title 'Kalahari SOS' (which we retain here) to highlight the life-and-death daily struggles of the San, not just against the elements, but against a much more nasty foe, the Botswana government and broad sectors of Botswana society that appear to have bought whatever propaganda the Botswana government had cooked up to dehumanize and justify their inhumane behaviour. This inhumanity is driven by the thirst for diamonds. A precursor to this performance run took place at a progressive venue in Cape Town, known as 'Katilist'. Africa is very silent in the face of this systematic starving and harassment of the first nations peoples of southern Africa. This project will be driven by arts and culture and through sound, colour, texture, movement and the word, shall raise awareness and create the beginnings of a systematic response to this vile situation and official policy. Details will follow clarity as the event starts to take shape and specifics are decided. All support will be counted on and victory will belong to all of Africa. An Africa where corruption that threatens the lives of Africans by Africans will seize to be a daily reality cum nightmare.

klopse on parade
this group rocked the kknk 2010; forgot their name (shit! shall find it and post her); they've got a purpose to, through the klops (coon carnival) culture, to keep youngsters off the streets and away from hard drugs and gangs; they formed part of a procession to open the kknk 2010; i walked through the procession as it warmed up, and made a short video. i like the feel of it... (pc won't read my external hard-drive, shit!) shall post the video another time...
